Thomas MATHEW b 1798 to Thomas and Ann West in London. A Cooper

Thomas was George Felton MATHEW's b1795 cousin.
He went out to CapeTown Sth Africa in 1818 arrived TB via "Ann" 22.10.1818 He married Ann Bonfield ALLSOPP whose half brother was John Harfield Tredgold and whose sister, Joanna mar. R H Arderne;Thomas lived in Claremont & built the first Congregational Chapel in his grounds. His children were Ann Harfield ,Thomas John, Eliza Mardin,Ann,Jessie,Williamm,George,John Alfred

John ALLSOPP chemist and druggist.Arrived TB in 'Susannah' ex Downs 1816.1818 joined his step son J H Tredgold: in 1819 bought adjacent properties, corner of Long/Lonmarket sts.
John married Elizabeth Harfield Tredgold (widow of Thomas Tredgold) John ALLSOPP died in England

'That the suburb Harfield was named after a living person? Thomas MATHEW a cooper, he arrived in the Cape 1818 He too bought 3 hectares of land from the old Weltevreden Estate. He married Ann Bondfield Allsopp and when he built hinself a home hae maned the House after her half brother John Harfield Tredgold who was a partner in a pharmacy firm, TREDGOLD and POCOCK in CapeTown. Tredgolds sister Joanna married R H ARDERNE a very well known name in the Claremont area.'
